<p>The English Premier League (EPL) is edging towards a crucial vote in November regarding new financial controls that could transform the top-flight football competition.</p>



<p>At the heart of the debate is a proposed anchoring rule, effectively a salary cap that ties club spending to no more than five times the income of the league’s bottom-ranked team.</p>



<p>Supporters argue that the plan would maintain competitive balance and prevent the wealthiest teams from gaining an unfair advantage. Meanwhile, opponents – including Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa – claim that it would undermine English clubs’ ability to compete with Europe’s elite.</p>



<p>Man U’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, warned it would be “absurd” if top EPL sides could no longer rival Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich.</p>



<p>Alongside anchoring, clubs will vote on a “squad cost ratio” system, limiting spending on transfers, wages and agent fees to a bountiful 85% of revenue, but still alinging with UEFA’s stricter 70% rule.</p>



<p>The Professional Footballers’ Association has threatened legal action, claiming the new model would unlawfully restrict player earnings. With some clubs reconsidering earlier support, the league faces a tense decision that could redefine English football’s financial future.</p>

EPL Faces Rift Over Proposed Spending Cap


<p>Cristhian Mosquera is facing a key international decision after captaining Spain’s Under-21s during the recent break.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The 21-year-old centre-back, who joined Arsenal from Valencia in July for approximately £13 million, led his side for the first time against Cyprus last month.</p>



<p>Mosquera recently told a sports publication that while he was honoured by the captaincy and eager to pass on his experience, he hinted that he hadn’t ruled out switching allegiance to Colombia, the country of his parents.</p>



<p>“I focus on my club and don’t worry or despair about other things coming up,” he said. “The rest will come.”</p>



<p>While Mosquera has represented Spain from U15 level to the Olympic team, reports claim that Colombia is attempting to lure him with the promise of a guaranteed 2026 FIFA World Cup spot. The South American nation previously tried to recruit him two years ago.</p>



<p>Competition for places in Spain’s senior squad remains fierce: Robin Le Normand, Pau Cubarsi and Dean Huijsen are currently coach Luis de la Fuente’s first choices. At Arsenal, Mosquera has impressed when filling in for William Saliba and Gabriel, making eight appearances across all competitions.</p>



<p>Time will tell where he ends up, as both nations vie for his skills as one of Europe’s brightest young defenders.</p>

Mosquera Considers International Swap After World Cup Offer


<p>England sealed their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 5-0 victory over hosts Latvia in Riga on Tuesday, 14 October, extending their perfect qualifying run under head coach Thomas Tuchel.</p>



<p>Anthony Gordon opened the scoring with a fine curling effort after 26 minutes, before captain Harry Kane struck twice ahead of half-time: the first was a thunderous low drive at the 44-minute mark, and the second, a penalty confirmed by VAR just four minutes later.</p>



<p>An own goal from Latvia defender Maksims Tonisevs in the 58th minute and a late finish from Eberechi Eze completed the rout just minutes before the final whistle.</p>



<p>Travelling fans playfully mocked Tuchel throughout, responding to his previous criticism of the home crowd at Wembley with chants such as “Thomas Tuchel, we’ll sing when we want.”</p>



<p>The 52-year-old German manager laughed it off, saying: “I found it quite creative. It made me smile… It’s British humour and I surely can take it.”</p>



<p>While England’s qualification was expected, Tuchel now faces tougher tests ahead. With Jude Bellingham’s recall looming and fierce competition among the team’s attackers, the football boss must settle on his best starting squad before the finals in North America.</p>



<p>Still, with Kane in relentless form and the defence yet to concede in qualifying, England’s road to the World Cup could hardly have begun more emphatically.</p>

Tuchel All Smiles as England Hit Five to Reach World Cup


<p>UEFA is planning to revise its multi-club ownership (MCO) regulations, granting clubs more time to resolve potential conflicts starting next season.</p>



<p>This development follows the controversy surrounding Crystal Palace’s expulsion from the Europa League back in July.</p>



<p>At the time, American businessman John Textor owned a significant 44% stake in Palace; additionally, he was the principal shareholder of French outfit, Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League.</p>



<p>However, UEFA’s rules dictate that two teams owned by the same entity are prohibited from participating in the same European competition.</p>



<p>According to recent reports, the football governing body discussed potential revisions to MCO regulations at its European Football Clubs meeting last week in Rome, Italy. These discussions likely included relaxing the 1 March deadline for flagging MCO issues.</p>



<p>If the move were to be officially approved, it could prevent a repeat of the Palace situation, where failure to meet the initial deadline resulted in their demotion.</p>



<p>Of course, while clubs still need to identify potential conflicts by March, they will now have until early June – before the Europa League and Conference League qualifying draws – to resolve them.</p>

UEFA Aims to Relax Multi-Club Ownership Rules


<p>Everton are on the verge of securing a major boost to their defence, with Jordan Pickford expected to sign a new long-term contract this week.</p>



<p>The 31-year-old England goalkeeper’s management team has fully approved the agreement.</p>



<p>Pickford joined the Toffees from Sunderland in 2017 for £30 million and has since made over 300 English Premier League (EPL) appearances, earning four Player of the Season awards from the Liverpool-based franchise.&nbsp;</p>



<p>His consistency has been crucial during the recent turbulent years at Goodison Park, helping the club maintain its EPL status.</p>



<p>On the international stage, the footballer has won 79 England caps and recently broke Gordon Banks’ record with eight consecutive clean sheets for the Three Lions.</p>



<p>His performances have even prompted former Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino to recently name him the fifth greatest England goalkeeper of all time, praising him for his constant superb form whenever he played for the national side.</p>



<p>The new deal follows after defender James Tarkowski’s contract extension earlier this month, as Everton look to secure their core players ahead of another challenging season under manager Sean Dyche.</p>
